appease的基本意思是“平息”,指平息怒气、平息纷争等或以满足对方要求等让步方式来抚慰某人,使其停止做某事。引申可指缓解饥渴,使人的胃口或欲望等得到满足等。
appease只用作及物动词,后可接名词或代词作宾语; appease可用于被动结构。
