splendid的基本意思是“极好的”,表示胜过一般的或通常的事物,指因极令人满意而“感到极好的”,引申可指“壮丽的,辉煌的”。
splendid本身含有“极”的意思,故不可用very修饰。
在非正式文体中, splendid有时可以放在某些指坏事的名词前,它并不起什么语义作用,而只用来加强后面名词的语义功能。
splendid是个含有绝对意义的词,习惯上只用于肯定句,不用于否定句、疑问句或条件句,但可用于否定疑问句。
splendid没有比较级和最高级形式。
