abreast的基本意思是“并列,并排”,在句中常用作状语(多位于词尾)或表语，用作表语时常用于be〔keep〕 abreast of〔with〕短语中。
abreast不用于比较等级。
用作副词 (adv.) The four of them walked abreast.
四人并肩而行。
They walked two or three abreast.
他们两三个人一排地走着。
Hayes' horse fell abreast of his father's.
海斯和他父亲骑马并肩而行。
Many people get abreast of what is gong on by reading newspapers.
