1. 表示“总 (的)”，注意以下用法：

有时也用作表语。如：

The fog was general. 到处都是雾。

Rainyweather is general in June. 六月一般都是下雨的天气。

3. 用于 in general, 意为“一般说来”、“总的说来”、“通常”等。有以下用法：

(1) 用作状语。如：

In general the plan is good. 总的说来，这个计划是好的。

The weather in Florida is warm in general. 一般说来弗罗里达州的天气是暖和的。

He was in general quite glad togo. 总的说来，他还是很乐意去。

(2) 放在复数名词后作定语。如：

4. 用作名词，表示“将军”，可用于称呼。如：
