You know how much your telephone has changed over the past 10 years.
Your car will change even more than that in the next 10 years.
One of the biggest changes is that cars will drive themselves. Some day you may not
need to drive a car. You will just tell the car where you want to go and it will drive
itself.
The American company Google has been working on a self-driving  automobile
for years. These cars are already on the roads in the United States, mainly in California.
Google cars are truly self-driving. These cars have no steering wheels(方向盘) or pedals(刹车踏板).
Last week, police ordered one of Google’s cars to stop for driving too slowly on a  public road. The car was not against any law, so no one was punished.
But police did speak to the operators of the vehicle(车辆).
According to Google, its self-driving cars have been driven nearly 2 million
kilometers. That is equal to the distance the average person drives in 90 years.
So far, no Google self-driving car has got a traffic ticket. Some of them have been in
accidents when other cars hit them.
Another American company, Tesla, added an “Autopilot(自动驾驶仪)” feature  to its
cars last month. Tesla put the feature, a computer  software  program in cars that  were
built after September 2018年.
With the Autopilot turned on, the vehicle drives itself. The car will speed up, slow
down, brake and steer by itself.
You can take over driving any time by turning the steering wheel or touching a
pedal. Your car will slow down if the vehicle in front of you gets closer. It will turn at
bends and change lanes if you use the turn signal.
Tesla Autopilot takes over driving at speeds over 29 kilometers per hour when you
press a button twice. Autopilot is made for cross-country driving. It keeps you in the lane
and helps you avoid hitting other cars.
Other companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo and Toyota are working
on self-driving cars. Another company called BestMile is also working on self-driving
in Switzerland. The buses can hold up to nine people and will be tested for two years.

In every country, there are thousands of people who want to help out. Many join organizations run (管理) by their governments, for example, the Peace Corps in the United States and Voluntary Service Overseas in Britain. Since the powerful (猛烈的) earthquake took place in Sichuan, more than 200 thousand volunteers across China have been helping there! They do all kinds of work or come up with ways to help improve life. Some offer their professional skills for free. Others have no qualifications (资历), but they love to work hard to help.
One of the most famous volunteers in the world was Mother Teresa. She could be the best volunteer because she gave her life to helping the poorest people of Calcutta. She helped the homeless, cared for the sick, gave out food, and became the mother of those without families.
Now more and more teenagers actively look for volunteering opportunities(机会), too. They volunteer because they think it will be fun or they will learn something. They also like the idea of being helpful to others, even if it is just handing out books for the teacher. As they get older, these reasons are still the same, but there are other important reasons for volunteering such as learning on-the-job, getting work experience, and improving their social life.
All volunteers bring joy to the people they help in so many ways. They might read books to the blind, fix up broken homes, find ways to get water for villages. Could you be a volunteer?

阅读下列短文,根据短文中的信息完成文后表格。(每空一词)
What do we really mean by being open? Being open is a kind of invitation to others to come in, to speak and to share. It is important in letting others get to know how we think and feel. In this way we will be understood and accepted by others. If we aren’t open with others, we won’t fully believe in ourselves or others.
Here are a few ways for you to be more open. First, make your outside behavior the same with your inside feelings and thoughts. Second, share how you really feel about something instead of just opinions. Third, try to change your questions into statements(陈述句) and talk in the first person so that people will understand you more easily. For example, you might say, “I feel happy that you’re here,” instead of, “Are you glad that you’re here?” Finally, try not to say, “I don’t know.” This usually means I don’t want to think about it anymore.
Remember also that it is not suitable to be open with everyone in every situation. You may want to be more open with close friends, but not with people you don’t know well, because you are not sure how someone else will use what they know about you. Besides, some people may not be used to too much openness. If we say everything we feel or think to them, they will feel very uncomfortable at times.
In all, being open is a good way for us to get on well with other people, but we’d better keep the balance between being open and not being too open.

I take part in after-school activities. I often do something meaningful in the
community. I join in my classmates in planting trees every year. I often go to the home for the elderly to do some cleaning.
I know the importance of protecting the environment. I often remind people not to
pollute rivers and lakes. I also advise people to save water and electricity.
I love my hometown, it lies in central JiangSu. Great changes have taken place in  my hometown. I’ll study harder to make it better.
